This Webquest is designed to introduce a variety of ways to solve multiplication for grades 3 to 6. All different multiplication methods can be introduced to students through centers. Display different methods and questions in each center. Teachers can go over each method as a class, or just set up steps for each center. I encourage students to work with partners so they can peer tutor or coach each other. The multiplication centers can be used for a week's lesson. After students visit each center and explore each method, students can take tests to check their understanding by using different models that were introduced in this webquest.

Grade level: Grade 3 to 6

Standards:

Use concrete objects to invent and model different procedures for finding sums, differences, products, and quotients of whole numbers.
Use concrete objects to model and interpret different problem situations for addition, subtraction, and multiplication of whole numbers.
Use manipulatives to invent, model, and describe different procedures for finding sums, differences, products, and quotients.
Model, interpret, and describe different problem situations for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Memorize multiplication and division facts to product of at least 100.
Multiply by powers of ten.
 Use an algorithm to find a product, using 2 digit multipliers.

Student will be able to:

1)    Memorize multiplication facts/ table through 10.

2)   Model and explain multiplication in a variety of ways including; repeated addition, rectangular arrays, skip counting, drawing lines, and lattice method..

3)   Solve meaningful, multi-step problems

4)   Describe and demonstrate patterns in skip counting and multiplication; continue sequences beyond memorized or modeled numbers.

5)   Represent multiplication of one-digit, two-digit, and three digit numbers by using appropriate models.
